2005 Showcase Home

It was during the 1996 Remodeler's Tour when I first met Jack & Elaine Trewartha.  Our tour project was a room addition and remodeling.  They liked what they saw, got some ideas, met our customers, and then asked if we'd come take a look at their house.  A few weeks later, I met Jack and Elaine at their home on Golden Lake.  Their house was an older story and a half with a converted enclosed porch on the lake side.  The home was in need of some updating and the Trewarthas had ideas of a large recreation room with wood ceilings.  In 1997, that is what they got, first we removed the unusable porch room that wrapped around the front of the original structure.  Then we constructed a large 28' x 26' recreation room with an office space in the corner.  The great room has unique features such as tongue-in-groove stained wood ceilings that vault following the roofline up to the ridge.  Wood beams accent the wood ceiling and the trim and doors are stained and finished Andersen slider units.  The gable end towards the lake has trapezoid glass units that fill the gable wall giving incredible light and view of the lake.  The gas log porcelain stove adds comfort and charm to this incredible room.  The following year we did some remodeling on the existing kitchen and bathroom.

Last year, we were asked to complete these years' Remodelers Tour project, which involves a master bedroom with bathroom.  Adding on to their home has been a challenge.  The existing house is a story and a half built approximately 80 years ago with white aluminum siding.  The roof with a 6/12 pitch and 12" overhangs were basic characteristics to imitate.  We had to position the additions to look as natural as possible.  When we finished the addition spaces blend with the original, making the additions unnoticeable.  The master bedroom is large enough to have lots of fine furniture and is complimented by a large walk in closet.  The master suite is built on the first floor, which makes accessibility easy for our retirement age homeowners.  The master bath space has a large shower and a beautiful double bowl vanity with wall cabinets. The complete interior is accentuated by natural wood trim, 6-panel wood doors and beautiful wood windows.

The master bedroom patio door leads out on to an expansive treated wood deck that provides a splendid lake view.  The deck wraps around the recreation room built eight years ago tying everything together.  Over the years we have enjoyed working for Jack and Elaine.  Last year we also remodeled and expanded their garage to accommodate a two car garage door and storage area.  The Trewartha's have been great customers; we have worked well together over the last nine years and will be friends for life.
